Hi, my name is Kelley and I love to create. From mudpies as a little to selling handmade Barbie clothes at 8, and bandsaw projects at 12, I have always loved exploring the world of handicrafts. I first played in clay in 8th grade. In fact, I still have that planter. I was taking a pottery class the summer I learned we were starting a family. Then as an empty nester, I returned to class at last and this time the adventure has been ongoing.

At every craft show, I would hear people say that they always wanted to try pottery but they had no idea how to go about it. And that was usually followed up with something about how they aren’t creative. Oh, I just wanted to hug them and reassure them that it is so much fun to just play! At The Moss Patch, I have all the materials and tools you need to give it a try. Let’s make the journey the most important part. Wouldn’t it be more fun to drink that coffee in a mug you made yourself?

I really do love clay. I have to confess that I love lots of other mediums too. Some would label me a Jill-of-all-trades. Back in the day, I was all about quilting, then came scrapbooking. Then one day, I used the scrapbook papers to create a paper quilt on canvas. That started a whole new adventure in collage. It wasn’t long before I could tell stories using the quilt block patterns, colors and added paint. Watercolors seemed to be the next challenge. Cardmaking made communications meaningful. I love to go treasure hunting at yard sales, thrift stores and antique stores. This opens up new ideas for repurposing and reusing those treasures. Oh, the ideas are all over the map!

While it can be disappointing that “there is nothing new under the sun” (Eccl 1:9), that really should free us to share ideas generously, to relish time spent with our people, to appreciate the journey. We can aim to make something “round-ish” on the pottery wheel or create a mixed media piece that tells a story.

I would love for you to keep in touch through my email newsletter. Just sign up for the infrequent updates via email. I would much rather be “making” than be on the computer. If you give me a call to schedule a class, please share your name or just say “classes” when it prompts. This just cuts down on my spam calls. I am looking forward to creating alongside you.

Happy Creating!
